CDC Launches HepTracker Dashboard as 2026 Progress Report Shows Mixed Results on Hepatitis Elimination

CDC's viral hepatitis program has launched a new interactive public dashboard, HepTracker, alongside its 2026 Viral Hepatitis National Progress Report, giving researchers and the public a more detailed view of the country's progress toward eliminating hepatitis A, B, and C as public health threats.

According to CDC's own summary, the 2026 progress report found that 5 of 10 annual elimination targets have been met or exceeded, with the agency calling for continued investment in prevention, screening, linkage to care, and treatment access to close the remaining gap.

HepTracker allows users to view case counts, rates, deaths, and death rates for all three hepatitis types, filtered by jurisdiction, race and ethnicity, age group, and sex, along with available risk and exposure data. CDC says the tool is intended to help inform state and local public health programs as well as give the public direct access to current surveillance trends.

The dashboard's launch comes as CDC continues to build out its broader 2026 Public Health Data Strategy, which includes efforts to integrate artificial intelligence tools into public health surveillance work and expand data-sharing partnerships between state health departments.

Hepatitis B and C both have longer testing windows than most bacterial STIs — CDC guidance generally puts hepatitis B's reliable testing window at around 60 days after exposure and hepatitis C's at around 84 days.
